The museum stores a priceless collection of the royal regalia that has been inherited from generation to generation. It was built to commemorate the 1992 Silver Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s ascension to the throne. The building, with its distinctively gilded dome, has become an outstanding landmark, in the heart of capital. It houses gold and silver armoury, jeweled-encrusted crowns, a royal chariot, a replica of the throne and gifts that His Majesty has received.
A full documentation of the Constitution of Brunei Darussalam is also exhibited.
Located on an archaeological site at Kota Batu, this museum which is the largest in the country focuses on the natural history, Islamic art, Brunei artifacts and customs, fine art and the oil industry in Brunei Darussalam.
The Malay Technology Museum opened in 1990, has three galleries portraying the development of handicrafts, architecture and house building in Brunei Darussalam; fishing and boat construction in Kampong Ayer and lastly, the life of some of the of the indigenous ethnic people of Brunei Darussalam. The techniques and processes that go into Brunei Darussalam’s most famous crafts – kain tenunan Brunei or Brunei weave and brassware are also displayed here.
